Welcome to my blog!
I am excited to share my volleyball journey with you. In this first post, I want to take you back to where it all began and share how I fell in love with this incredible sport.
The Beginning
My volleyball journey started when I was just 8 years old. Growing up, I was always an active kid, trying out different sports and activities. I tried gymnastics and even got to meet Olympian Laurie Hernandez at my gym. I tried softball too, but I just didn’t love it. One day, my mom asked if I wanted to play volleyball and I decided to give it a try. She signed me up for CYO and I couldn’t get enough. After two seasons in CYO, I wanted to continue to play after the short season ended. My mom called around and found a club that was still looking for a player in October and the rest is history.
First Steps on the Court
I remember my first volleyball practice vividly. My mom and her friend, Amanda, volunteered to coach because our team didn’t have a coach. At 8 years old, none of our players knew much about volleyball, so they taught us the basic fundamentals and court positions that season. I quickly became a leader on the court and remember getting so frustrated when the ball hit the ground on our side or we lost a match. Despite being new to the sport, I was determined to learn and improve. I practiced at home diligently, focusing on the basics and trying to absorb everything I could from my coaches. At home, I spent hours outside passing to the brick wall and trying to pass to the ABCs. I continued to get better and better and eventually was able to pass the ball through the ABCs three times.
Falling in Love with The Game
As I continued to play CYO, my love for volleyball grew stronger. I was captivated by the energy and teamwork of the game. The feeling of making a perfect pass was exhilirating. But what I loved most was the sense of friendship and teamwork. Volleyball isn’t just about individual talent, like gymnastics was. It’s about working together as a team to achieve common goal. The friendships I formed with my teammates and the support we gave each other on and off the court made the experience even more special.
The Journey Ahead
My early years in volleyball taught me valuable lessons about hard work, dedication, and perserverance. Every practice and game was an opportunity to learn and grow. The challenges I faced only fueled my determination to become a better playe. Volleyball became more than just a sport to me–it became my passion and a significant part of my life.
